Determination of moisture (water) content(w) in soil by USing oven dry method
-
- Container
-
- Electric oven to maintain the temperature between 105°C to 110°C.
-
- Desiccator
- Weighing balance, with an accuracy of 0.04% of the weight of the soil taken
- Weighing machine.
SAMPLE:
The soil specimen should be representative of the soil mass. The quantity of the specimen taken would depend upon the gradation and the maximum size of particles as under:

Procedure:-
-
- Weight the container with lid as W1.
-
- Take a sample in a container and weigh with lid W2.
-
- Remove lid and keep the container in oven maintaining a temperature between 105°C to 110°C for a period of 14 to 16
- Now weigh the constant weight (W3) of the container with a lid and dry soil sample.
