Battle of Tarain ( Taraori): 1191/1192

• The Battle fought between Mohammad Ghori and Prithviraj Chauhan of Ajmer.
• The Battle fought in Taraori near Thanesar, Haryana.

Overview:

• The Capital Ghazni was under Ghaznavid Empire in the rule of Mohd. Ghazni. When he died the Ghazni was under Oghuz Turks.
• Later on Mohd. Ghori of Ghurd empire defeated Oghuz Turks and took control over Ghazni.
• In 1175, Mohd. Ghori moved to India, in-between he captured Multan and took charge on Sind. 
• He entered through desert towards Anhilwara ( now Patan, Gujrat) and got defeat by Bhimdev Solanki II the ruler of Gujrat in the Battle of Kayadara in 1178. And after defeat Ghori moved back to Multan.
• Again he entered India and attacked Punjab in 1186 and defeated khusru Malik and established empire. But, Mohd. Ghori returned to Ghazni to help his brother and returned back in India in 1191.

First  Battle of Tarain(1191)

• In 1191, Ghori entered through Khyber Pass and captured Bathinda.
• Ghori’s army and Prithviraj’s army met and fought at Tarain( Taraori).
• Prithviraj Chauhan defeated Mohd. Ghori in First Battle of Tarain.

Second Battle of Tarain:

• The Battle took place in Tarain in 1192.
• Mohd. Ghori defeated Prithviraj Chauhan and captured him.

After Second Battle of Tarain:

• Mohd. Ghori’s General Qutub-Din-Aibak took charge over Ajmer.
• Prithviraj’s Son moved to Ranthambore and established Chauhan Kingdom.
• In 1194, the Battle of Chandwar, Aibak defeated Gahadavala dynasty ruler Jayachandra.

Battle of Haldighati:

• The battle fought on 18 June 1576.
• The Battle took place between Akbar’s forces( led by Man Singh I of Amber) and Rana of Mewar, Maharana Pratap.
• Mughal’s got victory in the Battle of Haldighati ( as per Andrew De La Gorza)
• Haldighati battle site is a narrow mountain pass.

Battle of Panipat:

First Battle of Panipat:

• The Battle fought in 1526.
• The battle fought between Babur and Ibrahim Lodi.
• Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodi.
• End of Delhi Sultanate or we can say End of the Lodi dynasty.

Second Battle of Panipat:

• The battle fought in 1556.
• The battle fought between Akbar and Hemu.
• Akbar defeated Hemu.

Third Battle of panipat:

• The Battle fought in 1761.
• The battle fought between Ahmad Shah Abdali and Maratha’s Sadashiv Rao Bhau.
• Ahmad Shah Abdali defeated the army of Maratha’s.
